Finding a Therapist in Minnesota

Finding a therapist in Minnesota

The most recent publications from the Minnesota department of health suggests there are only 2,202 licensed mental health therapists in Minnesota. With a population of 5.6 million Minnesota is lacking mental health services for most of its residents. Most of these Minnesota therapists are therapists in the Twin Cities, therapists in Minneapolis, therapists in St. Paul, and therapists in other metro areas. This has left the more rural areas drastically underserved by traditional face-to-face services. Until recent years online therapy had not been a big part of mental health therapy. If you were not in an area with access to mental health services, you were likely stuck driving to appointments. Although therapists are licensed by state, traditionally we were restricted to serving only those who lived close to use geographically.

Online therapy had a big increase during the pandemic and it is here to stay. Online therapy has shown to be just as effective for some clients and may even increase access and ease of mental health therapy services in MN. I switched to all telehealth after noticing many of my clients prefer to attend appointments over telehealth. Online therapy has increased access to group therapy as well. I currently offer a young adult support group and a setting healthy boundaries group.

Women’s therapist and young adult therapist

I specialize in working as an anxiety therapist, therapist for young adults, and therapist for women. The population I serve fits well with a telehealth approach and really benefit from online mental health therapy. My MN therapy clients find that the easy of telehealth gives them the most flexibility with appointments and puts more time back in their schedules. My clients can continue seeing me across the state of MN. College students are notoriously busy and constantly relocating between school and home. Regardless of if they are attending school and wanting a therapist near University of Minnesota or if they are looking for a therapist near Southwest Minnesota State University. You can be assured that you have access to a Minnesota therapist who specialized in college students. Women are busy and barely have time to schedule appointments not to mention carving out to time to attend them. With online therapy a 45-minute therapy session is truly only a 45-minute commitment. With afternoon and evening appointments for my clients those looking for therapy in MN have more access now than ever. Now clients can schedule easily with the 24hour accessible online scheduling, you don’t even have to make a phone call.

Telehealth has truly been a game changer for MN therapists. I have found that telehealth is a perfect fit for my own needs and my clients. Now you can find a women’s therapist in Duluth MN. You can have access to that same women’s therapist in St. Paul MN.

As a MN therapist telehealth has been so rewarding because I have gotten good at helping the specific populations, I am passionate about. Rather than putting a small amount of effort focusing on all populations but not getting very good at working with any one client. This generalized approach was the only option for rural providers prior to telehealth. Because MN therapists were simply just trying to make it work due to lack of access. Why would you go to a big box store hoping they have a lemon candle when you could go to the candle store knowing they will have a lemon candle. When you have a specific problem, you find someone who can help you with your problem. With telehealth you have access to the best of the best in what you need.

I expect you are going to continue to find good therapists who really enjoy telehealth and clients who are very satisfied with the services they are receiving.  With telehealth there is always a therapist near you.
